About Utility Advocacy

Utility Advocacy

Alliance for African Assistance's Utility Advocacy Program has trained bill advocates that are ready to assist you with a variety of questions and issues you have with your cell phone, home phone, or gas & electric bills.  If there is anything you don't understand or you don't think is correct on your bill, we can help you. If your bills are too high, we can help you find discounts and credits to lower them.  If you are curious about how we can help, we encourage you to bring your bills to us and we will check them to see if you might be paying too much.

Here are just a few of the issues we can assist with:

  • Over-billing
  • Lifeline
  • Termination fees
  • Calling cards
  • Misleading ads
  • Undisclosed fees
  • Faulty equipment
  • Contract not provided in language
  • Wrongful disconnection
  • Unable to pay balance due
  • New account set-up
  • Discount program application assistance
  • Set up a payment plan or extension
  • And so much more!

The Utility Advocacy Program is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Please call 619-286-9052x226 to schedule a one-on-one appointment so that we can assist you in a timely manner.  All assistance is free to the consumer and is confidential.

We also do classes for the community.  If you know a group that would be interested in learning about their bills and how to save money, don't hesitate to call us and we will set up a free workshop!
