THRIFT STORE SALES ASSISTANT

Safari Seconds Thrift Store

 

Refugees often arrive in the United States with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. The Alliance for African Assistance Safari Seconds Thrift Store is dedicated to assisting newly arrived refugees with supplies and furnishings during the initial months following their move to the San Diego area. Safari Seconds also functions as a typical thrift store, offering a wide selection of items for sale such as furniture, appliances, clothing, and household goods. For many refugees, Safari Seconds serves as an on-the-job training site in which refugees receive retail experience for attaining employment. The Thrift Store Sales Assistant will assist refugees with on-the-job training and also facilitate the day to day activities of the thrift store.  
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Help supervise Welfare to Work refugee clients with customer service
• Operate cash register and answer phone
• Design display tables
• Organize and maintain clothing racks
• Collect and sort donations

  

Requirements:

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Highly organized self-starter, reliable, and dedicated
• Retail experience preferred
• Experience in supervision is a plus
• Knowledge of other languages is a huge plus!
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
