World Refugee Day Event

The Alliance for African Assistance invites you to join in this Saturday, June 20th for the 14th annual World Refugee Day Event! This year’s event is focused on recognizing women trailblazers and honoring the bravery of the San Diego refugee community. It will be held at the beautiful La Jolla Presbyterian Church from 9am-12pm and will include breakfast as well as performances by Burmese dancers, Iraqi singers and a Persian setar player. The keynote speaker is Solange Butira, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who will be sharing her journey from mere survival to much success.

Not only is the event an opportunity to get to know more about the unique cultures in the San Diego community, but proceeds go to helping fund the organization’s refugee programs in San Diego, and the Child Scholarship Program in Uganda. Through the generosity of attendees at last year’s World Refugee Day event, 20 Ugandan children were awarded scholarships to pay for school and buy the school supplies needed to pursue their education.

If you’re looking for something fun to do this Saturday morning, want to immerse yourself in cultural diversity, eat great food and meet people from all over the world, come join us! Tickets start a
t $38.00 and can be bought online at  eventbrite or at the front door on the day of the event.
